Thanksgiving Turkey with Gravy

This Thanksgiving Turkey with Gravy will be enjoyed by everyone! Your holiday dinner would not be the same without this famous main dish!

Ingredients:

1 turkey
1 tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 tbsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 1/4 cups chicken broth
1 stick butter (8 tbsp)
1 1/2 cups yellow onion, chopped
1/4 cup flour
2 tbsp brandy
1 tbsp heavy cream
1 tbsp parsley

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Make sure to set your oven rack at the lowest position
2. Take off truss that holds the turkey legs together and any excess fat in the neck or body cavity. Also, remove the giblets and the neck from the turkey.
3. Wash the turkey inside and out with warm water and pat dry the turkey with paper towels. Place a V shaped rack in a heavy stainless steel roasting pan. Take your olive oil and massage it onto the turkey skin then sprinkle it with your salt and pepper. Next, set the turkey, breast side up, on the rack.
4. Take some aluminum foil and form caps over the tips of each drumstick. Insert a digital leave in thermometer in the center of the breast through the thickest part until the tip touches the bone.
5. Sit your turkey into the oven and roast for 1-1 1/2 hours and until your thermometer reaches 160 degrees.
6. Take the pan from the oven and carefully tilt the turkey so the juices from the cavity fall into the roasting pan. Move the turkey to a cutting board, foil the turkey and let rest for 30 minutes to allow the juices to settle.
7. Next we will make the gravy. Move the roasting pan to a burner on your stove. Remove any excess fat that have accumulated in the pan. Mix in your broth and cook over medium heat while scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen any brown bits, until simmering. Then, turn off your heat and set to the side.
8. Take your butter and melt in a saucepan on medium low heat. Mix in your onions and cook for about 15 minutes or until onions are soft. Then, mix in your flour and cook for 3 minutes while occasionally stirring together. Mix in your turkey dripping chicken broth mixture and your brandy and cook for about 5 minutes, uncovered, while stirring until thickened. Take your heavy cream and your parsley and stir in with it. Sprinkle your salt and pepper and place in your gravy bowl.
9. Lastly, carve your turkey and serve with your gravy
